The State Minister of Higher Education emphasized that the inhumane ragging in universities should be eradicated. He said so during the special press conference held at the State Ministry of Higher Education premises regarding the ragging incident that took place at the University of Peradeniya, recently. Similarly, he pointed out that the prevailing laws and rules are sufficient for taking action against the students who involve in this, and no need to impose new rules. Further, the Minister stated that action should be taken against the students who involve in this without any discrimination, and in addition to the suspension from attending classes of the state universities, their degrees should also be revoked. The minister further stated that he expects to arrange a procedure to blacklist the offenders so that they do not get government jobs. Also, the Minister stated that universities should be exposed to the media.
